I was 30 when I was DCP in 2010. Had a different outlook.

I’ve writing some good things about the Disney College Program, but if I’m gonna be honest, I liked my days off when I was allowed to be guest more then when I was a Cast Member. Don’t get me wrong, free entry to the parks was nice and when Toy Story 3 came out and everyone got DVD/ Blue Ray combo for free with a thank you note from Bob Iger, not being a Cast Member on my off days was still better. I was 30 when I did the program in 2010 and I worked with a few people that were around my age too. We had a different idea what the Disney College Program was going to be then what it actually was. I was in the Fall Advantage program, which was from May 2010 to Jan 2011. I felt like DCP’s were just there for extra help during the busy time. I thought there would be classes or workshops where you did actual projects to get an idea of how Disney does what it does. I did take a marketing class and got my “Mousters” Degree, but those classes just guest speakers that talked about what they do and showed videos. I thought that you would be taken to corporate and see things in action. I wish I had gotten more out of the class and I wish I was able to do volunteering with Disney. For me being a guest was better and it was less stressful. I didn’t have to be naturally happy all the time and be able to do something as simple as drinking cold water as often as I needed, as opposed to even remember the last time I drank water in a 8 hour shift. When I talk about missing Disney World and wishing I could go back, it’s not to work in the parks, but to be a guest.
