Origins of the Disney College Program

The Disney College Program formally began in 1981 but technically started in 1972 when Disney began “The Disney Entertainment Work Experience Program.”  Which was a work experience program for students focused on performing arts. A 12 week program over the summer were students would work in the marching band, singing or playing.

In the beginning around 3,000 students across the country would audition and only 100 would be selected. There were only 8 international students the first year they had international students join the program. When the Disney College Program we know today first launched it launched under the name the Magic Kingdom College Program which was open to over 40 schools taking in only 250 students and the international program went from 8 students to 15.

Snow White Village was the first Disney College Program housing community consisting of new trailers with very little inside of them.
