The Disney College Program is one of the best things I have ever done in my life and I wish I could go back every day. One particular day that stands out was a day in early April I believe, when there was torrential downpour, thunder, lightning, and even a tornado warning. That sounds like the scene of a scary movie, but it was one of my favorite days ever.
I worked on the Wildlife Express Train in Animal Kingdom and therefor had to work outside during the storm. The reason I loved this day was not because we finally got a break from the relentless crowd day after day, but because the guests who did venture out that day seemed especially happy and grateful. You’d think that they would all be miserable; one day out of their Disney vacation had horrible weather; but the majority of the guests I encountered were in high spirits!
Many of them were so nice and grateful to the Cast Members for braving the weather just like them. Maybe it was because I worked an attraction that didn’t shut down for the weather, or maybe it was because the train would take them to a building, whatever the reason, they were especially happy.
With so few guests in the park that day it was also so much easier to talk to more guests and learn about them and in turn they would ask questions about me and it was almost like I made a hundred new friends for five minutes throughout the day.
By the time I got home I was soaked head to toe despite my rain jacket. I literally squeezed a cup full of water out of my socks. My fingers and toes were the pruniest they’ve ever been, and yet, it was still one of my most favorite days working at Disney with the College Program.
